NWoTD - Shrell

I try to get through Christmas without losing my shit because of the crass commercialism of the holiday. I try to ignore it as best I can. But I generally get my lunch at the Safeway near my work and there's a Salvation Army "donation" guy that stands by the door jangling his bell. He does it really low until someone walks in or out of the store and then he makes it jangle loud and shrill. And he always gives me the hairy eyeball and a sarcastic "Have a nice day" as I walk by him without throwing my change into his bucket.

I have my reasons for not donating my change. The first is that I save all of my change, it goes into a jar and we use it for family stuff that we might not otherwise be able to afford. Change adds up, a year or so can net several hundred bucks.

The second reason is that the Salvation Army is a religious organization at its core. Part of their central philosophy is to spread their gospel. Sorry but I cannot and will not support religious organizations. One nice thing about the calendar changing over to 2007 is that he'll be gone when I go back to work.

Anyway, all of that brings me to today's new word of the day....

Shrell - a shrill bell, not unlike the bell the Salvation Army guy rings.

NWoTD - Cordespondence

Today's new word came about from a mispelling but it really works quite well.

cordespondence - despondent correspondence, i.e. sad letters sent home from someone in a tough situation without much hope. An alternate spelling would be cordespondence but I think its harder to parse out that way.

NWoTD - Spattern

One of the other new words I came up with yesterday. With a nod to the original dirty mushroom, this one's a bit on the gross side.

Spattern - the unique pattern of spray your diarrhea makes in the bowl.

NWoTD - Toolio

I came up with this one with a specific person in mind but decorum prevents me from going any further than that this is a perfect description for him.

Toolio - someone who thinks they are supercool but they're really a supertool.

Which, of course, leads to another related term...

Foolio - someone who thinks they are supercool but they're really a superfool.

NWoTD - Emaul

Today's word is a pretty simple one, a switch of a letter and, bam, the original word's definition extends in a whole new space.

Emaul - assault by email. Using email to attack and hurt someone else. I'm still working on the IM and SMS version of this because of the recent story about the guy who terrorized some young teen girls via IM.

NWoTD - Introllectual

Ahh, don't you love the smell of a brand new word? No? I guess its just me then. Anyway, here's another new word to describe a certain type of online jerko.

Introllectual - someone who's obviously got some brains but only uses them to abuse, derail and otherwise upset an online community.

NWoTD - Scumarketing

Inspired by my most disliked retail giant, Wal-Mart and their scummy marketing tactic of getting kids to spam their parents with expensive crap from Wal-Mart for Christmas.

Scumarketing - scummy marketing, underhanded marketing techniques that leave you feeling like there is a dirty film over you. Unethical and unnecessary marketing that should be met with nothing but scorn and boycotts.

NWoTD - Carriot

Today's new word has almost no use in the real world but it makes me laugh anyway.

Carriot - a riot over carrots.

NWoTD - Slimformation

Today's new word is inspired by the near never-ending drivel spewing forth from Tony Snow's fetid maw. And so today's new word is....

Slimformation - passing on just enough information to get by but not really enough to know anything of value.

And also,

Mislimformation - passing on just enough bad information to be plausibly deniable. They've stopped even trying to do this since they are just out and out lying (see Tony Snow's recent lies about George Bush never having said we should "Stay the course" in Iraq despite the literally hundreds of instances it can be found online).

I suppose there might also be a version called slimeformation but that gets a little hard to parse.

Tags: , , , ,

NWoTD - Glerrors

Glerrors - glaring errors. Also could be spelled glarrers but that makes the root words a bit more obtuse.

Which, of course, leads one almost instantly to

Confidensial - marked by a dense or stupid confidence, misplaced confidence.

New Word of the Day - Freaktard

Inspired by today's news about Paramount firing Tom Cruise for his creative suicide over the last year.

Freaktard - a freakin' retard. See Tom Cruise.

Note, some people will object to my use of 'tard in this fashion. Tough shit. I could defend its use by talking about the regression Cruise visited on his career by acting like a moron on numerous occasions but I really don't give a damn right now.

New Word of the Day - Prettiot

There are some many terms to use to describe the attractive moron. But today's new word came to me while watching Elizabeth Hasselbeck get all huffy and stupid about Plan-B on The View (I saw it on YouTube via The People's Republic of Seabrook cut me some slack).

Prettiot - a pretty idiot. Of which there are plenty.

New Word of the Day - Scammo

Today's new word is so simple it must have been invented already. But I'm not checking so I can take credit for it.

Scammo - ammo for scammers, that is, your marketing information is scammo.

New Word of the Day - Sentimount

Oh yeah, this is the way some guys work their mojo and get a little sack time. Its the offer of the shoulder to cry on in the hopes that a moment of emotional weakness will lead to some bow-chicky-bow-bow, that is, some sexing.

Sentimount - pretending to give a damn about a girl's (or, in rare cases, a guy's) emotional turmoil in order to exploit her temporarily weakened emotional state to get some sex. Try not to be a sentimountal fool.

New Word of the Day - Funnoying

Hi kids (yep, I'm wearing that one out today) you know what's funny AND annoying? Why that would be funnoying.

Funnoying - being both funny and annoying. Like its annoying that my favorite shorts no longer really fit me and funny because I'm skinnier now than I have been in about ten years so its funnoying.

New Word of the Day - Sexcess

Today's new word should have come to me when I came up with smackcess and schmuckcess but it didn't. It had to germinate a bit more before it fully came to me.

Sexcess - successful sex, duh. Or, alternatively, excess sex but I'm not sure if that even exists.

New Word of the Day - Oppoonent

Today's new word gets backmy comedy roots, scatology. So let's get down to it.

Oppoonent - when the person you are competing against plays like shit or, alternatively, when your competition craps his pants during the game.

[Update: My pal Ryan, of Rambling Rhodes, offered another new word for the Fictionarium and I absolutely love it.

Reintardation: When someone says something so retarded, their entire reputation is alterred forever because of it.]

New Word of the Day - Beautidull

Today's new word is....

Beautidull - the utterly vacuous hottie. Someone who got more than their fair share of looks at the expense of cognitive power. Let's see, I suppose Paris Hilton might qualify to some though I find her repulsive and plastic. Actually, I know the perfect beautidull person, Kelly Ripa. She's like a mini-Barbie doll but is about the most shallow tv personality I've ever seen. Congrats Kelly, you're beautidull! Woot!

New Word of the Day - Spinglish

Here's a new word (actually its probably not given how simple it is) but anyway, new to me and here ya go.

Spinglish- PR speak, spinning English or using the language to make bad news appear to be good (i.e. AOL saying laying off 1300 people is a good thing).

Tags: , , , ,

New Word of the Day - Concraption

Today's new word came from a post over on MeCha.

Concraption - a gadget toilet, i.e. a contraption crapper....contracted.

Plus, I have learned of something new in language, it is the recursive acronym - basically the spelling of the acronym with the first letter in the acronym being the word being spelled, i.e. GNU - Gnu's Not Unix. Learned because my grin word today is MUNG which is also a recursive acronym standing for Mung Until No Good, even though I have no idea what that means. But hell, still pretty darned cool.

Recursiveness, in general, good for a laugh. Witness things like the Hasselhoffian Recursion and tell me you didn't laugh before you gagged.

Double Dip New Word(s) of the Day

Here's a few that have been marinating in the hopper for a little while. And then a couple more that came to me as I was writing this post.

Nukelele - an atomic powered mini-guitar.

Pukelele - a sick ukelele.

And heck, some more because it just popped in my head.

The Dukelele - what John Wayne played when he was riding the range.
The Lukelele - what Luke Skywalker played with before he got his light saber.
The Spookelele - a ghostly mini-guitar.

Two New "D" Words of the Day - Dramactedly and Darwinate

Today's new word comes from drama and acting, no way!

Dramactedly - dramatic acting for effect. Not usually for the camera though its sometimes caught on film, think Tom Cruise' jumping the shark couch on Orpah (the Killer Whale!) because he was sooooooooo in love with his incubator bride, Katie Holmes. Or the over-emotive drama queen who swoons at the slightest provocation.

Darwinate - to apply the "Survival of the Fittest" to an individual, that is, incorrectly, situation. Evolution doesn't work on the micro scale, its across populations and environments. Darwinating is when people cheer idiots who kill themselves in really stupid ways.

And, in more word geek goodness, have you ever noticed how close "Trial" and "Tribal" are? There but for a "b" goes the trial. And maybe I've mentioned this before but one little slip and "nicest" becomes "incest". Strange one.

New Word of the Day - Pardiot

A lighter word of the day today.

Pardiot - party idiot. The moron who ALWAYS gets too drunk and does something incredibly stupid for which he must apologize the next day. Don't be the pardiot. It also sounds a bit like part-idiot which works as well since the party idiot is part-idiot.

New Word of The Day - Bushito

Bushito - the Bush path of Bushido, lying, incompetence, old-boy networks, no-bid contracts, rubber stamp approvals, warrantless wiretaps (without need) and more. Bushito is not honorable or laudable, it would be laughable if it weren't resulting in our nation circling the drain while he and his cronies help themselves to billions and billions of our dollars.

New Word of The Day - Bushgeois

A political new word of the day.
